ENGLISH FOR DYSLEXIA
Learning Disabilities and Learning English
Welcome to the only specialized foreign language center with classes for students with learning difficulties and the pioneering Englexia program for the first time in Volos. Our ambition is for everyone to have access to the knowledge of the most widely spoken language in the world, English.
Target Audience
The program is aimed at children and adolescents with:
Special Learning Disabilities / Dyslexia / Dyslexia / Dysorthography / Distraction / Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
General learning difficulties in English / Decreased performance
The Method
We adopt the multi-sensory teaching approach that involves all the senses, as, according to research worldwide, the use of multiple senses in the learning experience is a key parameter in learning a foreign language to children with dyslexia and other special learning needs, while benefiting all.
Using touch and body, sound, color, image and phonological awareness achieves memorization, and the most effective organization and reception of new information. In this way the student's motivation for learning is enhanced and the learning experience is enriched.
This approach stems from the basic principle that only what the student with learning difficulties can feel can he finally understand and assimilate.
The Program
The Englexia program is a complete English learning proposal for all levels and is intended for students from 8 years old.
In the first stage, students are taught phonological awareness with specialized pedagogical exercises, mnemonic techniques and special books while developing all the skills necessary for the correct learning of a foreign language. The printed material, more specifically, has been created by a special team of scientists and is a holistic educational program designed specifically for students who need a different approach to learning or have not benefited from the conventional education they have received in the past.
The structure of the program aims, initially, at the state level of learning autonomy A1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) lasting one or two years, according to the individual needs of each child.
Students then move on to the second stage where they are part of a general education department, in which they continue with individualized attention and guidance, as well as the necessary adaptation of the material, in order to reach the desired level of skill and certification.
The Target
The main purpose of the program is not only the academic success by obtaining a certificate from the respective institutions, but mainly the correct learning of the English language with innovative methods adapted to the different needs of students with special learning difficulties.
The Space
An essential part of our methodology is the layout and functionality of the learning space that is equipped with the most modern educational tools. Relaxation path, Pilates ball chairs, anxious toys and soft colors create an ideal environment in which the student feels safe, calm and focused.
The philosophy around the design of our space is based on the need for children to consume the excess energy they have and sit in a non-static position to calm down and be able to concentrate more. Children improve their physical condition, which enhances their perception and ultimately promotes thinking. In addition, the use of technology with individual tablets and interactive whiteboards further facilitates the writing and reading process and makes the lesson more interesting and engaging.
